Here’s how you can help your student be successful in middle school:
  • Encourage your middle school child to talk about his fears.
  • Support your child at home by talking about his day.
  • Expect your child to act responsibly: doing homework regularly, getting to class on time, using a planner for assignments, etc.
  • Prepare a quiet, organized place for him to do homework free from distractions.
  • Stay involved! Volunteer to be on hand for school activities.
  • Get to know your child’s teachers.
  • Be patient with attitudes—they change by the day or the hour!
  • Allow some independent thought—different hair or clothing styles, within reason, may help them to express themselves.
  • Don’t let the media shape their opinions!
